and Gulf of Mexico has to offer, TIFT has become a family tradition since its 1934 start. TIFT also believes in investing in
the future of its youth as a total of eight $2,000 scholarships are awarded each year.
2007 - 69th Annual Tournament Wrap Up
Great weather, great fishing and a record 1576 registrants and 526 boats made the 69th Annual Texas International Fishing Tournament another record breaking year. Fifteen Blue Marlin were caught, one brought to the docks. Twenty-one White Marling were caught, one was brought to the dock. Eighteen Sailfish were caught, one brought to the docks.

Anglers weighed in a wide variety of species in both bay and offshore divisions including the most unusual fish category winner, a .35 pound Stargazer. Johnny Rodriguez of Lozano was the 2007 Bay Grand Champ, with 24.60 pts. and 2007 Offshore Grand Champ, Donnie Seay of Rockport aboard the "Seay Goddess" won with a total of 1100 pts.

Tournament events kick off with Playday activities open to participants up to age 21. Held at the South Padre Isalnd Convention Centre, Playday attracts hundreds of junior anglers in TIFT anglers represent an extremely desirable market group. Playday is followed by two days of competitive fishing in both bay and offshore divisions. Weigh-in for both days of fishing takes place at Southpoint Marina in Port Isabel where thousands of spectators turn out to view the dock side activities.

Anglers participating in TIFT are residents of the Rio Grande Valley with disposable income and a genuine enjoyment of outdoor activities. During their five day stay in the Port Isabel - South Padre Island area, they have a direct spending effect in excess of $1.5 million -- not including tournament expenses.
